What Is Home Automation?

The words “What Is Home Automation?” in white lettering on a dark blue background

Home automation is a trending option for homeowners because it improves your home’s energy-efficiency, increases the lifespan of light bulbs, and ultimately saves you more money in the long-run. This technology allows you to preset your electronics to turn on and off during certain times of the day, so you can come home to a well-lit, comfortable environment, all while using less electrical energy during the times you’re not home. Home automation is our number one recommendation for people wanting to reduce their monthly electric bills. We sat down with Brent Staley to explain more about our home automation options.

“Today I want to talk to you a little bit about home automation. Everybody needs to be in the know now and needs to see everything on their app. At Staley, we have the ability to install doorbells that have a camera allowing you to see who’s at your door and what’s going on outside. It will alert you if somebody walks onto your front porch.

We can install smoke detectors that will alert you if there is an issue in your home. They also light up like an occupancy sensor in case somebody is walking through the hallway, acting as a nightlight. We have switches and outlets that can be controlled by your phone so you can schedule when lights come on and when lights go off. We install Nest cameras so you can see your camera systems on your phone. Lastly – and I think this is a cool one – we can install a wireless device on your home generator. You can see when it exercises, and when it’s working, when it needs maintenance, and all of the data that you could ever possibly need.

The reason we do home automation is because more and more people want to know what’s going on in their home when they’re not there. It’s just a great security feature to be able to know who’s at your door. Is there a fire, is there smoke, is my generator running? Is it not? Can I turn my lights off while I’m not at home, or did I forget to turn something off that I can turn off using my phone? We’re seeing more and more people adopting this type of technology.”
